Portugal top their Nations League group, going undefeated in their six group games after amassing four wins and two draws. Portugal will now face Denmark in the two leg quarter-final stage of the competition taking place next March.

Cristiano Ronaldo led all players with 5 goals in the A League after the group stage wrapped up. The 39 year old Portugal captain now sits at 135 national team goals as he continues to extend his all time world goal lead.

Bruno Fernandes has now moved into the Top 10 goal scorers in Portugal history after scoring a pair of goals in the competition. Fernandes currently has 25 goals while wearing the Quinas jersey in 76 appearances and is five goals away from moving into the Top 5. At 30 years of age Fernandes will need to pick up his pace if he is to move into the Top 3 all-time as he is currently 16 goals away from Portugal legend Eusebio.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez brought in a host of fresh faces to put on the Portugal national team jersey during the competion. Renato Veiga, Samu, Tomas Araujo, Tiago Djalo, Nuno Tavares and Fabio Silva all earned their first caps for Portugal. Ricardo Velho, Tiago Santos and Geovany Quenda were also called up to the squad but did not appear in any action but enjoyed the experience of being around the players.
UEFA has once again revamped their Nations League competition that now sees the top two countries in the A Group advance to a two leg home and home quarter-final with the winners advancing to the Final Four tournament which is normally hosted by one of the four countries. The fourth place squad in League A drops to League B while the third place finisher will play the runner up in League B for a spot in the next competition in League A.
