Portugal and Congo are meeting for the 1st time in their history, the two nations have not even played a friendly at the senior level.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to become the first player to ever score in six different World Cup campaigns and will be looking to set the mark early in the competition.
Portugal have four players that are coming off capturing the Champions League title with PSG again this season. Vitinha, Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes and Goncalo Ramos.
Portugal are appearing in their ninth World Cup and have qualified for the last seven tournaments. There best finished were 3rd in 1966 and 4th in 2006. Congo are appearing in their first World Cup, although they did qualify for the competition in 1974 when they were known as Zaire.
Chancel Mbemba the nations captain is also their most capped player in history and sits at 109 appearances and first appeared for Congo in 2012.
Congo qualified for World Cup 2026 by defeating Jamaica in the inter-confederation playoff and the country celebrated by announcing a national holiday the following day after qualification.
